Hello.
I'm seeking some advice or information.
My wife is Korean. We have five K-A children between the ages of 23 - 33 years old, including a career
Naval Officer, a stockbroker and a member of Customs/Border security. We're married 34 years with
14 grandchildren.
My wife has a son, born in December 1972 in South Korea, to her and a US soldier. The soldier was
NOT a US citizen at the time but became one soon after he returned from Korea. He is ethnically
Chinese and lives in California. He has some personal reasons for NOT wanting to acknowledge his
son, as he never revealed the boy's existence to his wife and daughter these many years, although
he has provided significant financial support for him over the years. I'm pretty certain that he
could be convinced to give an affidavit of paternity if it would help his son to get here. I am NOT
sure whether or not he obtained his citizenship before the boy's birth.
Additionally, my stepson has visited us a few times and his wife delivered their first child here
in the USA, so his own son is also a US citizen by birth. They have two other small children now, born
in South Korea. His wife is college educated and speaks fluent English and he is an engineer/
plant manager in a Korean manufacturing facility. My wife got her US citizenship in 1980 and I am a
native American.
Here is my question.
Does the Amerasian Act apply to this young man? Where can I go to get information on this matter?
PS: I went through this in 1990 with my own Vietnamese/American daughter who I managed to
retrieve from DRVN along with her mother and half-sibling. The effort and expense was enormous
but well worth it. My daughter received her US citizenship retroactive to her birth in 1971, but she
had been registered in the ODP since it's inception. I'm much older and poorer now, but I feel that
I should try to help my wife's son if at all possible. I appreciate your advice concerning this matter.
Thank you.
