2007년 전국 총회는 혼혈인 미국이민이후 최고의 모임이었읍니다. 5월25일부터 5월30일 막을 내렸읍니다. 실제 총회날짜는 27일이었지만 여러형제자매들이 보고싶은마음을 못참아 미리부터 오는바람에 실제로는 5일동안의 총회였읍니다.
덕분에 민예풍 부회장님은 아직도 목이쉬고 눈은 토끼처럼 되어 있읍니다.
5일동안 운송 담당을 하느라 공항과 호텔로 자기사업조차 휴업을하고 협회일에전심전력을 다했고.
남승호씨 부부도 장소제공에 너무많은 수고를 해주셨읍니다.
이번모임에 하와이 에서부터. 플로리다 에서까지. 많은 분들이 여러개주에서 와주셨고 20년에서 최고 40여년 만에 만난 박영옥씨와 홍진주씨는 서로 얼굴조차 못알아보다가
이름을듣고 몇번씩 서로 확인을해가며 눈물로 기뻐하던 모습과 여기저기서 수십여년전 어릴적 이야기로 밤이새도록 헤여질줄모르고 추억의 대화의 불은 꺼지지 않았고 마당 한쪽에는 먼저 세상을 떠난 친구들을 추모하는 행사로 각기 이름을적어 촟불을붙혀 추모하기도 했읍니다.
헤여지기가아쉬워, 잘가라고 인사해놓고 한시간더 이야기하고 다음날아침에 또 만나서 몇시간 이야기하고, 또 잘가라고 해놓고, 또만나고.
아무튼 시작부터 끝까지 반가움과 웃음의 연속이었고 몸은 늙었지만 마음은 십대시절로 돌아가 나이도 잊은채 우리들의 옛이야기는 끝이 없었답니다.
Korean-Amerasian Celebrate the Amerasian Act’s 25th Anniversary
The Hanmi Amerasian Association of the USA will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Amerasian Act at their Annual Social and Networking Gathering on May 27, 2007 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Korean-Amerasians from across the country will be gathering in Gettysburg for this day-long event.
Who are Amerasians?
During the Korean and Vietnam wars, millions of American soldiers were stationed at military bases in Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. When the wars ended and the U.S. troops departed, many Amerasian children were left behind. Most of them faced racism and discrimination during their early years.
What is the Amerasian Act?
Public Law 97-359 (Act of 10/22/82) provides for the immigration to the United States of certain Amerasian children. In order to qualify for benefits under this law, an alien must have been born in Cambodia, Korea, Laos, Thailand, or Vietnam after December 31, 1950, and before October 22, 1982, and have been fathered by a U.S. citizen.
What is Hanmi Amerasian Association?
We are a fellowship of Korean Amerasians living in the United States.
We are proud to be Americans, and we are grateful to all Americans for allowing us to come to our fathers’ homeland. And we are proud of our Korean heritage.
We have left behind a legacy of discrimination, and are working together to provide a better life for us and for our children. We encourage inter-personal relationships and social networking among our members. We speak English and Korean – come join us – find friends and work towards a better life together.
